This Sunday at 8PM, e.tv brings you the epic Superman film, Man of Steel. Here are nine things you may not know about the movie.
1. Clark Kent is one of the last of a dying race. He is disguised as an unremarkable human, but is forced to reveal his identity when earth is invaded by an army of survivors who threaten to bring the planet to the brink of destruction.
2. British actor Henry Cavill is the first non-American actor to play the role of Clark Kent.
3. For the first time ever, the role of the Daily Planet’s editor-in-chief, Perry White, is played by a black actor, Laurence Fishburne.
4. Russell Crowe is the second Oscar winner to play Jor-El. The first one was Marlon Brando. Crowe once had a song with his band, Rus Le Roq, titled I want to be like Marlon Brando.
5. Eleven actors appearing in this film were featured in Smallville, a series about Superman, including Amy Adams, who was in one episode.
6. Clark Kent is only referred to as ‘Superman’ once in the whole film.
7. Superman’s Kryptonian family name ‘El’ is one of the Hebrew names for God; this is one of many saviour references in the film.
8. Henry Cavill has a naturally hairy chest and left it untouched for this movie, rejecting the current view that attractive men have no chest hair.
9. The filmmakers hired Professor Christine Schreyer, an expert in anthropology and linguistics at British Columbia University, to create the Kryptonian language.
