It was the moment we had all been waiting for. One of judges finally used the golden buzzer! SA’s Got Talent, Sundays 6:05PM.
And just like that, Derek Plaatjies is the first recipient of the golden buzzer!
Shado Twala was so moved by his performance this Sunday, she helped him skip all the other audition phases. Remember, each judge has the power to send a contestant straight to the semi-finals by pressing the golden buzzer.
Here’s the catch – they can only give it to one contestant for the entire season. So they really need to believe in the contestant they give it to.
After Derek performed Sam Smith’s ‘I’m Not the Only One’, Shado didn’t think twice about pressing that buzzer, bringing him one step closer to that R500 000 prize money.
Plaatjies became an internet sensation after a video of him singing at a train station went viral. The 23-year-old from Saron in the Western Cape hopes to inspire other young people from small towns to follow their dreams no matter how challenging their circumstances may be.
Derek will be joined by 20 other semi-finalists who will battle it out for the winner’s spot.
