After playing Themba for almost two years, Sphamandla Dlhudhlu bids Rhythm City farewell.
We had a quick chat with him.
1.Themba’s last scenes were very intense. Were there any challenges in portraying a psychopath?
I had to do a lot of research before playing Themba the psychopath. At first I didn’t know how I was going to do it, but after watching videos of psychopathic behaviour and reading about it, I knew what I had to do.
2.What did you enjoy most about playing Themba?
I liked absolutely everything about him. There hasn’t been a character like Themba on TV. He went from being a player, to having sex with his brother’s wives and then finally a psychopath. Keeping up with him was not easy, but it helped me grow as an actor.
3.What is the biggest lesson you’ve learnt from Themba?
If you do the wrong things, you can’t expect things to go right for you. From the moment Themba got on screen, he was a big mess. He was making all the wrong decisions and got himself into bad situations. There is no way Themba’s story was going to end well.
4.Who are you going to miss most on the Rhythm City set?
I’m going to miss everyone at Rhythm City! Especially the people I worked with closely like Niki, Puleng, Suffo and the amazing crew.
5.What’s your next move?
I’m going to be focused on my business ventures while honing my skills as an actor. Hopefully, you’ll get to see me on screen again soon!
All the best for the future Sphamandla!
