1. Leo’s mother named him Leonardo because she was pregnant and looking at a Da Vinci painting in a museum when he first kicked.
2. An agent wanted to convince him to change his name because it sounded too ethnic.
3. Leo has a daughter. He adopted her from an orphanage while shooting the movie Blood Diamond in South Africa. Although the girl is not living with him, he sends a monthly cheque and talks to her regularly over the phone.
4. Although the 42-year-old actor has dated a lot of women – he’s never been married.
5. Leo owns an island off the coast of Belize.
6. He had a few near-death experiences including a shark attack and a skydiving accident. 
7. After being nominated so many times Leo finally won an Academy Award for Best Actor in 2016.
