To commemorate World AIDS Day we’ll be airing the local drama Yesterday on eMovies Extra at 6:20PM.
Friday, 1 December is World AIDS Day. Founded in 1988, it is a day where people worldwide unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and honour those who have died from AIDS-related illness.
To show our support we will be airing Yesterday, which was written by the South African film director and producer Darrell Roodt.
The film tells the story of a young mother, Yesterday, played by Leleti Khumalo, who discovers she has AIDS.
Her husband, a migrant mine labourer, rejected her despite being the one that infected her. Her ambition then becomes to live long enough to see her daughter, Beauty, go to school.
In 2005 Yesterday won the award for Best Sound, Best Editing and Best Make Up at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2005.
