Rhythm City’s Jamie Bartlett (David Genaro) gives us some background on his unique dialogue.
“A lot of these quotes come from Shakespeare and I use a lot of Greek metaphors, rhythm and metré. Some of these are adlib and as a performer I always ensure that I take the script and put it on steroids” Explains actor Jamie Bartlett, who’s been playing the role of David since 2007.
47-year-old Jamie says he wanted to find a single voice for David, “I have the stage to create a singular voice as dynamic as David’s and to do this I forge South African colloquialisms with these metaphors, dynamic rhythms and intonations.”
But what does it all mean, Jamie, pray tell? Jamie says he will leave that to his audience to interpret and give meaning.
