He is chef de partie at Rust en Vrede restaurant in Stellenbosch and also the well-known host on Kasilicious.
Katlego Mlambo, originally from Johannesburg, is still stunned when he wakes up in the morning and realises that at age 25 he has his own TV Show.
“I owe my success to my granny who supported and told me to give 110%. She is the main reason why I am where I am today.”
Each week Katlego and a guest visit their favourite eating spot in various townships around the country and then Katlego recreates these well-loved dishes for contemporary kitchens. Katlego says the most difficult dish he had to recreate so far was Yolanda’s fish and chips.
“It wasn’t as easy as it sounded and gave me quite a headache,” Katlego said laughingly.
He adds that it’s challenging to recreate the dishes because you are cooking for people at home, and sometimes it’s hard to take the chef element out of it.
His favourite dish to prepare for himself is pasta. “I recently bought myself a pasta maker and I enjoy making my own pasta. I’m experimenting at home and there are so many flavours and layers you can add.”
When he’s not in the kitchen he loves listening to music, watching football, and he recently bought himself a DJ set.
Katlego says he admires international television chefs like Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver because they make food look sexy.
