Rosario stars in The First 20 Million Is Always the Hardest on Saturday 22nd Feb at 9:55PM.
Rosario Dawson is not your average Hollywood starlet. Here are five things we love about the 35-year-old actress.
1. She didn't grow up rich.
Rosario lived with her young mother, Isabel (A Puerto Rican/Afro-Cuban struggling singer) and baby-brother, Clay Dawson, in a “squatter’s apartment” in the East Side ghettos of New York City.
2. She was a compassionate child.
A close family friend, Uncle Frank, contracted HIV when Rasario was 7 years old. She shared her food with him and stayed close to him throughout his illness.
3. She was discovered by chance.
At 16, Rosario was sitting on a porch in her neighbourhood when aspiring screenwriter Harmony Korine spotted her. Korine thought she’d be perfect for her feature film, Kids, which became Dawson’s first role and subsequent rise to fame.
4. She's a huge Star Trek fan.
She even speaks broken Klingon, the made-up Star Trek language!
5. She owns her own production company called Trybe.
In 2007 she released the film, Descent, about a college student who is brutally raped and struggles alone to rebuild her life.
