We chat to Siyabonga Shibe about his past and saving his brother.
How did Kila end up with a criminal record?
It came with Daniel’s betrayal. Daniel had to save himself from being arrested and haunted by the loan shark business. Kila was his sidekick. They were in trouble and Kila ended up being the fall guy and Daniel was orchestrating the whole thing.
How did this affect his relationship with Daniel?
It created friction. He had to do the groundwork because he wanted to earn Daniel’s trust and respect. He wanted to get into business so he can be respected. That’s what he was looking for.
How did he turn his life around when he stopped being Daniel’s associate?
When Kila got separated from Daniel he wanted to stand up on his own. He repented. He wanted to do good. He now co-owns Safe ‘n Clean and he wants to be a proud father and be a good role model to his son and brother.
Why is he so hard on Ndumiso?
He doesn’t want his brother to make the same mistakes he did. Ndumiso follows in his footsteps so he’s trying to teach him about honesty and loyalty. He wants the best for him that’s why he’s very harsh.
How does he feel about bailing out Ndumiso?
It’s a decision he had to make. If he had to tap into his criminal side he would do it. He would do anything to save his brother; he’s his brother’s keeper. He takes things seriously and he doesn’t want anyone to get hurt. His family comes first. But now he ends up hurting his business partners. They’re now starting to doubt him and whether he has changed. His past has come back to haunt him. But it also hurts that he constantly has to bail his brother out because he wants him to be more independent and to do things for himself.
The Ngcobo brothers are in a bad situation, will they survive this?

As a responsible brother, Kila feels obliged to protect his brother. But now his brother is becoming rebellious because he knows Kila’s dodgy past.
