Karaoke, swinging from balconies, and crazy crowds gone wild - the e.tv and OpenView HD stars invaded Kimberley for a weekend-long party.
The e.tv and OpenView HD stars touched down in the Diamond City early Friday (28, March) afternoon, but there was no time to relax. First stop was the hotel where everyone had only a few minutes to freshen up before making their way to radio interviews around the city.
Then it was off to the Flamingo Casino’s Entertainment Grounds where we spent the afternoon with a children’s home in the area. The kids got to meet their favourite e.tv and OpenView HD stars and were entertained with soccer, karaoke, jumping castles, a mechanical bull and slides.
Khanyi Mbau and Ntombi Mzolo hogged the karaoke station and had everyone singing along to their rendition of TLC’s “Scrubs.” A few of the kids went up next and opted for Beyonce’s “Single Ladies.” Khanyi got everyone laughing when she playfully heckled them saying, “Remember when you hit those high notes don’t fart!”
It was over all too soon, and after handing out e.tv and Openview HD goodie bags, everyone was back on the bus for the 20-minute drive back to the hotel.
After a quick splash and an outfit change, it was off to the media dinner where journalists had the opportunity to meet the actors and presenters face-to-face. The guys were disappointed when the scheduled trip to The Big Hole was cancelled because the women’s heels were too much of a safety hazard. Eish!
Next stop was the Rio Cocktail Lounge for the Club 808 Club Takeover. And spirits were high as everyone was excited to see what Kimberley nightlife had to offer. We were greeted by screaming fans trying to catch a glimpse of the TV personalities as they existed the bus, greeted the crew.
Once settled in the VIP area on the top level and in full view of the partygoers, Mo Flava got the night started with some fresh house beats.
Of course Khanyi was a crowd pleaser, she was dancing on tables and swinging from the balcony! But she really got the crowd excited when, later in the night, she made her way down to the general area and danced and socialised with everyone there.
DJ Zan-D wrapped up the party with his signature hip hop beats. Everyone lost their minds the moment Beyonce’s “Drunk In Love” started. The e.tv crew were still singing lines from the track when we made our way back to the bus in the early hours of Saturday morning, “watermelon!”
Despite the late night, there was no time to sleep in; we were off bright and early to Thabane High School where we met more screaming fans.
The scorching heat didn’t stop anyone from waiting for hours to meet his or her favourite celebs. And they were not disappointed because the e.tv personalities were warm and obliging, thanking their supporters, posing for pictures, handing out autographs, jiving on stage and dishing out tons hugs.
Midway through the event MC Big Dreamz threatened to cut the event short when the crowd started pushing forward and the barricades collapsed! Luckily, the situation was quickly brought under control and the roadshow continued as planned.
It all ended just after 1PM, and then it was straight to the airport for the flight back home.
