He’s our favourite Nyathi and we’d hate to see him go to prison. Here’s why we think Mangi should be acquitted.
Mangi’s trial is in full swing. While the witnesses have not put him in too bad a light, he could still be found guilty. We pray that the judge will have mercy on him and won’t punish him too harshly. And unlike Lucas and Shakira, Mangi didn’t do anything wrong. The shooting was an accident and he shouldn’t be punished for it.
We hope Judge Jackson Twala will go easy on him. Here are five reasons why.
1. He was protecting his father
Mangi would never harm a soul. We understand that he had no choice but to shoot Cain. Cain was a threat to his father and he was about to strangle Lucas to death. Remember Lucas was already incapacitated from the bullet he took for Maletsatsi. Physically he couldn’t fight Cain off him.
2. The murder was not premeditated
Even though Mangi fired the shot, the murder wasn’t planned. Mangi was merely caught up in the events that unfolded that fateful day. He panicked when he saw Cain throttling Lucas. He didn’t hear Eddie shouting at him to not fire the shot. And even he didn’t think the shot would be fatal.
3. He has suffered enough
Mangi has suffered enough and shouldn’t have to pay for his father’s sins. Lucas lied to him all his life. First he pretended he was his uncle until it was later revealed that he was his father. He then found out Lucas was a crook; he ended up being kidnapped by people who wanted to punish Lucas. Just when he thought he had heard it all, and nothing would shock him about his dad, he found out Lucas had lied about who he is all this time. – Don’t understand this sentence?
4. Taking care of baby Michaela
Who will take care of baby Michaela when he’s gone? Yes, Tino has offered to look after the baby should all the Nyathis go to prison but we still think it would be so much better if she lived with her older brother. Every little girl deserves to grow up with their older brother, alongside them to protect them.
5. He won’t survive prison
Mangi is too soft for prison and he will probably be beaten up every day he’s there. Or worse, he could start taking drugs again to cope with prison life. Remember the last time he was hooked on drugs? We don’t want to see poor Mangaliso in that situation again.
