Jongo, Africa’s first superhero action series, premieres on Tuesday, 19 April at 8:30PM.
Jongo is about a young man, Eli, who acquires an array of supernatural abilities after his dad leaves him an alien crystal.
Eli (Pacou Mutombo)
Eli is a courier delivery guy and also a dance teacher. But his world is cast into turmoil after his father is murdered and his girlfriend kidnapped. Now in possession of a mysterious crystal that gave him supernatural abilities he wants to avenge his father’s death.
Kay (Katlego Baaitse)
As Eli’s best friend, Kay sees him more as a brother than a best friend. After Eli’s life is thrown into disarray, Kay has to decide what depths he is willing to go to support his closest friend.
Maya (Pauline Zwane)
Maya is a talented painter and sculptor who is looking forward to settling down with Eli, the love of her life. However, as Eli’s world descends into chaos she is caught up in the turmoil and is kidnapped by the men responsible for the murder of Eli’s father.
Benjamin (Bartho van Tonder)
As the son of a lunatic billionaire, Benjamin owns the ancient cave where two crystals of unknown origin have been discovered. After his father gives him the scarlet crystal on his death bed, his obsession with the crystal grows. Ultimately, he will stop at nothing to get his hands on Eli’s stone which, he believes, is the key to fulfilling the prophecy.
Alexandra (Sarah Kozlowski)
Alexandra is a human trafficker working with Mr Angel. She is also Benjamin’s girlfriend and has motives of her own and nobody quite knows which side she’s playing. She’s a soulless vixen and nobody realises what she is capable of. Or what her plan is.
