It’s Women’s Month, and this Sunday at 8PM, e.tv brings you two incredible women – Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock – in The Heat.
Uptight FBI special agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) and Boston cop Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy) become partners in order to take down a ruthless drug lord. Sparks fly when these polar opposites have to work together.
In real life though, the two are besties and often have play dates with their kids, they also have quite a bit in common:
They’re both celebrated and respected actors
In 2010, Sandra Bullock won the award for Best Actress at the 82nd annual Academy Awards for her portrayal of Leigh Anne Tuohy in The Blind Side. This year, Melissa McCarthy became the first woman to receive the prestigious Comedic Genius Award. "I may be the first woman to receive this award but I am certainly not the first one to deserve it," she told the audience.
They’re both big earners
McCarthy is the third-highest-paid actress in Hollywood, behind Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett Johannson. Bullock is the first female star to carry a film past $200 million, for The Blind Side.
They’re both over-achievers
Despite their busy acting schedules, both women also run other businesses. Bullock owns a production company called Fortis Films, a restaurant called Bess Bistro, Walton’s Fancy and Staple bakery, and she’s an executive producer of the George Lopez sitcom. McCarthy recently launched a clothing line, called Seven7. Officially, it's for "plus-size" women, but McCarthy says: "Seventy percent of women in the United States are a size 14 or above, and that's technically 'plus size,' so you're taking your biggest category of people and telling them, 'You're not really worthy.' I find that very strange."
They’re both big on women power
The Heat transformed the blockbuster landscape as the first all-female movie in the buddy-cop genre. McCarthy also stars in the all-women remake of Ghostbusters with Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon and Kristen Wiig, and Bullock is currently working on an all-female reboot of Oceans 11.
Set your reminder and watch The Heat this Sunday, 7 August at 8PM.
