Lies and secrets have been exposed and Mangi now knows that his father is an imposter, is his life in danger?
The family secret is out – Gogo Nyathi has bared it all. Daniel is not who he says he is. He’s not her nephew but her son and his name is Lucas Nyathi. He took his name from his cousin – a cousin who has now disappeared.
It’s this sin that’s tainted the Nyathi bloodline and that’s why Mangi has had such bad luck in his life. Mangi couldn’t believe his ears; is he paying for his father’s sins?
A stunned Mangi goes downstairs to confront Eddie and Shakira - did they know about this? When they confirm that it’s true, he’s shocked. Once again he’s been betrayed by those close to him. He’s been lied to all his life. Distraught, he storms out.
Where is Daniel?
But one issue still nags at him; is this identity theft the reason Daniel is in trouble now?
Earlier in the week, Shakira and Mangi discovered that the person who they have been communicating with is not Daniel. After a little digging, Eddie’s source disclosed that Daniel never left the country. So he is not in Switzerland as everybody thought.
Mangi wonders whether there’s any truth to Gogo’s ramblings. Gogo Nyathi told him she’s been having disturbing dreams of Daniel dying.
We chat to Mangaliso about his father’s disappearance.
Didn’t you find it odd that Daniel left for Switzerland in such a hurry, without even saying goodbye?
No, because Daniel is an unpredictable character. He recently went on a two week vacation to Mauritius. So I didn’t really suspect anything foul. He sent me an e-mail before he left to let me know where he is and what he’s up to.
Does he usually communicate with his family when he’s overseas?
No, even when he was in Mauritius. It’s normal behaviour for Daniel. Even though it upsets me, I know to expect this from him.
What made you realise he might be in trouble?
When he responded to an SMS sent by Shakira and where he deliberately behaves like he doesn’t know when Michaela’s birthday is.
Where do you think he might be?
I don’t know but I think he might have landed himself in trouble again as usual.
