We chat to SA’s Got Talent presenter Tats Nkonzo.
We couldn’t get enough of him last year, so funny man Tats Nkonzo is back as the presenter of this year’s SA’s Got Talent. We had a quick chat with the 28-year-old comedian.
Where were you born and bred?
Born in the Eastern Cape, Mdantsane. Not bred. That makes it sound like I'm a stallion.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Able to buy as many Chappies as I wanted. With my own money!
How did you get started in the entertainment industry?
Reality TV competition, So You Think You're Funny season 1.
What’s the coolest thing about your job?
I can say whatever I want without getting a call from HR. Plus, no jamming printers.
What’s been your career highlight so far?
Hard question that. There are too many to mention, and not all of them have been on big stages.
So you’ve competed in reality shows yourself. What’s the worst and best thing about it?
The worst thing is definitely getting kicked out. It's similar to the feeling you get when a girl dumps you, except millions of people are watching you getting dumped. Best thing is that first time "she" says yes and you get through the first audition.
How did you calm your nerves?
Preparing something you know will impress the judges helps with confidence. Nerves, you can't get rid of, the only time they go away is once you step on stage.
What’s your favourite thing about yourself?
My ability to get along with people.
Do you have a motto you live by?
Used to drive a Mazda Sting, now Chevrolet... Oh! Motto?
Who inspires you?
Anybody doing great things.
What’s your favourite thing about SA’s Got Talent?
The people. From my perspective as a presenter, the whole show is a peoples person show. I literally meet thousands of characters.
SA’s Got Talent returns with a new season in August and we’re on the hunt for South Africa’s most talented. Auditions are already in full swing, last week we were in Joburg and this weekend (1 & 2 June) we’re headed to Cape Town!
