Khanyi ditches her designer clothes and gets down and dirty, giving back to the community.
Khanyi Mbau is known for making tabloid headlines and her bling lifestyle but on the new reality show, Reality Check, she kicks offs her stilettoes and gets to work giving back and paying it forward.
When asked what viewers can expect from the show she says, “We deal with some really heartbreaking situations and you will see some really emotional scenes with some of the girls breaking down.”
With 3AM call-times, 15-hour work days and rubber boots and gloves, the girls really buckle down and tackle some serious social issues facing the country. “I hate the tasks, it gets me dirty and it challenges me. Each day is a mystery. We don’t know what the tasks will be or where we’re going. You just need to trust and go. Believe that it is going to be a good day.”
Despite the hard graft Khanyi says she enjoyed the process, “We had so much fun. Every minute on set was a blast. I go to bed fulfilled, I love it and it’s my passion.”
So are we going to see a new Khanyi? “I believe that there are layers to a human being. Yes, we can assume because the media puts stuff in our heads, but open your mind and try and get to know this person better.” And Khanyi is no newbie when it comes to negative media attention, “The media is brutal. They don’t care about your feelings or who your mother is. Being in the public eye, you are opening yourself up to intense media scrutiny.”
Khanyi doesn’t have many celebrity friends but believes this is what has kept her humble and grounded. “Don’t let your fame run you. I go to work, do what I have to do and I go home. I have a good support system of real people.”
