A new episode of Mzansi Love airs tonight at 8.30PM starring Khanyi Mbau.
In Mzansi Love: Out Of Breath Kgomotso (Khanyi Mbau) wants to train for the Jozi Marathon. To help Kgomotso train, her friend hires James, a hunky personal trainer. But while James sorts out Kgomotso’s body and diet, she tries to fight the growing attraction to someone she believes is socially and intellectually beneath her.
We chat to Khanyi about exercise and “dating down.”
Your character is training for a marathon, do you work out?
I don’t work out, but I’ll walk instead of driving to a meeting if it’s close to home, and instead of catching the lift I will take the stairs. I also watch what I eat - no starch, six small meals which consists largely of vegetables, I snack on fruit. I also drink lots of water. I guess its good genes!
Your character is apprehensive about dating her trainer because she feels he’s beneath her. How do you feel about “dating down”?
When it comes to dating I believe in dating someone that I share a connection with, their status means nothing to me.
Do you think successful women have a harder time dating and finding good men?
Yes, unfortunately this is true; most men are intimidated by strong, successful women. Some men are able to handle a powerful woman while some can’t, they want to be the one steering the ship.
Quick Q’s with Khanyi:
Most memorable valentine’s gift? A sapphire ring with platinum
Celeb crush? Woke up next to him because I’m dating my celebrity crush and his name is Tebogo Lerole!
Love is… Understanding and acceptance
Biggest turn off? Lies and laziness
Pick-up lines… Big NO
