Raymond’s in town and he’s not letting anyone stand in his way.
Lerato is in town for barely a monthly and her troubled past is already following her. Raymond won’t let anyone stand in the way of finding Lerato, who according to him is his girlfriend.
Raymond is played by actor Sipho Ngema (41) from Meadowlands Zone 10. He joined the film industry in 1998 doing set dressings; he later joined Scandal working in props. He also worked as a gaffer and went on to art directing on eKasi: Our Stories and Loxion Bioscope on Mzansi Magic.
Here he tells us more about his character Raymond.
How did you land the role of Raymond?
I didn’t audition for this role; the cast director called me and told me about Raymond. This character is similar to my real-life personality, so executing it was a breeze. The truth is I don’t have to portray Raymond because Raymond is who I am when the camera is on or off.
What is Raymond about?
Raymond is a go getter, he’s the kind of guy who will not hold back but will go and take what he wants. He is also loving and caring but he doesn’t take nonsense from anyone. He is not a good-looking guy and girls don’t find him attractive. Even though he is tough on the outside, inside he is just a softy who wants to be loved and is lonely.
Hardly a week after arriving he throws threats around, is he a violent person?
Raymond won’t just start fights, but when there’s a threat in his path, he will erase it. He believes in living his life with fewer worries and doesn’t have time to discuss what he can easily take care of.
How did Raymond and Lerato meet?
Raymond works for Lerato’s dad as his bodyguard and this is how the two meet. Lerato doesn’t understand Raymond’s love for her.
Why did Lerato run away from him?
Lerato is not open to the idea of dating Raymond who is madly in love with her. She runs away from home thinking she will escape him but Raymond goes after her. Raymond wants to try and make her see that he loves her and will not harm her.
Is Lerato’s father supportive of his bodyguard dating his daughter?
The sad part is that Lerato’s father is even scared to stop him. So Raymond is going after Lerato and no one is stopping him.
Why is he so obsessed with Lerato?
Raymond is a wimp when it comes to women, he doesn’t have the courage to approach them. He convinces himself that she is the “one.” All that Raymond wants is to love her and protect her from hurt.
What can we expect from Raymond?
Raymond won’t be a bully all the time, something will change him.
