These are the characters we simply can’t help but celebrate this Women’s Day.
We’ve been celebrating our #SupremeWomen for weeks already, but we thought seeing that it’s Women’s Day on Wednesday, 9 August we’d give an extra special shout out to these strong, feminine, fierce female characters on our shows.
Lerato and Bongi – Rhythm City
They may not see eye to eye, but both Lerato and Bongi have great qualities. Lerato may be a schemer but she’s also a go-getter and very ambitious. Bongi may be unlucky in love but she has overcome a lot, including a complete downfall and a battle with alcoholism.
Yvonne Thebe and Dintle – Scandal!
No woman has rocked Scandal! with so much controversy since the days of Thembeka Shezi. Yvonne may not lead by example, but she knows how to use her sex appeal to get what she wants. Not to mention that she’s bagged some of the most influential men (currently married to Siseko) to maintain her extravagant lifestyle. We also love Dintle because she came from nothing and was even a prostitute at some stage, but today she’s got a baby with a CEO (Quinton Nyathi) and lives in a penthouse. But for how long?
Azania and Thandi – Broken Vows
The youngest daughter of the Moswane family saw her world crash before her eyes when her jailbird father, Ace, came back into her life. She then found out her husband Chris was abusing prescription pills and even lost her baby. Meanwhile, Thandi comes from a troubled background and her relationship with Uhuru may be rocky, but it has since been revealed that she was raped by Ace when she was younger. She’s still a super woman as a senior wedding planner at Yours Truly Concepts, she’s highly organised, ambitious and determined to be the best at her job.
Celia – Harvest
There’s no two ways about the type of woman Celia is. She made it very clear when she watched her husband die in front of her and didn’t even flinch. She’s feisty, has bribed cops, slept with criminals and did whatever she had to do to keep her family afloat (even travelling across vast distances while heavily pregnant with her first born). She has also crossed many lines and continues to do so to get her own way and run the weed business.
Dikki – Z’bondiwe
Even though Dikki was a criminal, we were extremely proud of her come-up. In season 1 she was a young, homeless girl who pick-pocketed strangers to get by and her alcoholic mother always weighed her down. She also survived a horrific rape which saw her do the unthinkable to prevent giving birth to the child. Before she was tragically killed in a fire, she ran the tavern with an iron fist and was sealing drug deals with Russians like a true boss.
Olivia Pope – The Fixer
Excuse our bad language but this Washington D.C.–based crisis manager is a bad ass. She runs her own firm “Pope & Associates” and literally specialises in fixing political situations. She also had an affair with the President of The United states (Fitz). Did we mention that she’s a trendsetter when it comes to fashion and style?
Dr. Allen Sanders – Hostages
What would you do if you and your family were taken hostage by a rouge FBI agent? Dr. Ellen Sanders is a well-respected doctor at the Maryland College Hospital in Washington who was chosen to operate and kill the President of the United States. After numerous threats, she’s still doing everything in her power to protect her family and get out of the hostage situation. Including attempting to kill their captor, Duncan.
