etv’s hit drama series Umlilo is coming back for a 3rd season. Here’s everything you need to know about the new season.

Umlilo Season One was a dark brooding, suspenseful drama. We watched Dumile struggling to stop Khwezi from infiltrating her family, always finding herself one step behind her nemesis.

In Season Two we turned up the heat as Khwezi and Welcome put their plan for vengeance into action, and Dumile raced to discover their true identity.  At the end, the Simelane family was left in in tatters. Cebisile was dead, Andile and Phindi both narrowly escaped death, Mnqobi’s business was ruined, his assets seized and he shot his only remaining wife, Dumile.

Welcome to Season Three

Mnqobi tries his best to get his life and business back on track. Thembi, previously known as Khwezi, looks to get out of prison and away from the Simelanes. Dumile works on getting her life together, all the while looking for answers as she still thinks Thembi is a threat. Spikiri wants answers over the loss of his child and the hurt he caused Dumile. Andile is off to university and looking to start a new chapter in her life away from all the drama. The Minister is also back and looking for revenge, as Mnqobi did him wrong, and an interesting plot unfolds between him and Spikiri

From court cases to marriages of convenience and car bombings, this season of Umlilo will truly bring the fire.

Umlilo’s veteran actor Hamilton Dlamini, who plays the controlling polygamist Mnqobi Simelane, chats about the show’s return.  

Season 3 of Umlilo is right around the corner. Did you think the show would go this far?
Yes, I’ve always predicted that because of all the hard work that we’ve injected into the project. Also, South Africans have been raving about the show, this is the first time they saw something that talks to them. It’s a real story that most people resonate with. 

Do we see any changes to Mnqobi on this season?
Mnqobi changes and becomes a poor person. He lives a life that was worse than the one he had growing up. A lot happened to Mnqobi during the previous season, he lost two wives and killed Dumile’s baby. He’s alone now and has to learn how to rise by himself. 

Mnqobi will re-marry on the new season. Did he not learn his lesson with Khwezi?
(Laughs) Mnqobi has a disorder I tell you. He marries a prosecutor very soon, which is a bit confusing. He loves women so much – it’s crazy, and the biggest problem is that he wants to own the women he loves. 

Please give us a scoop on what happens with his relationship with Thembi?
Their relationship becomes dangerous, there’s no trust. Mnqobi resorts to moving on, but Thembi becomes a frustrated women and wants to strike back. Stay tuned because their relationship gets very interesting. 

Last season, Mnqobi killed Dumile’s child. What happens to them this season?
Mnqobi works hard on getting Dumile back. You have to watch to know if she goes back to him or stays with Spikiri. 

Why should we watch season 3?
It’s way better than the first two seasons, its growing and there’ll be a whole lot of new challenges.

Actress and model Phumeza Mdabe, who plays the role of Thembi on Heist, chats about her role. Heist, Tuesdays at 9:35PM.

Please tell us about Thembi, the character you play.
Thembi is in a love triangle with Mark and Keith, but initially she’s in love with Mark. They have a six-year-old son together. Their relationship is a bit bumpy because Mark is a hustler but his hustle never pays off and this frustrates Thembi. She eventually makes a plan by going out with Keith.

How did you feel when you got the role?
I was super excited, my excitement went higher when I read the script. It’s a beautiful story. I love the cast, especially the cast that does the heist. 

What do you love most about playing Thembi?
I love how honest she is, because even when she breaks up with Mark she doesn’t go behind his back and cheat on him with Keith. She tells him that it’s over. I love how she takes responsibility for her son. I don’t really like the way she does things, but I do love her. 

Any similarities between Phumeza and Thembi?
Thembi is something else (laughs), so we don’t really have any similarities besides the fact that we’re both loving.

What should we look forward to in tonight’s episode?
Mark’s heart gets broken when Keith proposes to Thembi.

Africa is introducing our very own version of the Lip Sync Battle TV show which will start on Saturday, 23 April at 6:05PM.

Pearl Thusi will serve as all around host and “master of ceremonies”, while the “Koko Master” will step up as the “colour commentator”, adding his lively observations to the proceedings. 

The popular Lip Sync Battle, originally created for Spike, features celebrities going head to head, lip-syncing the song of their choice, battling for the coolest bragging rights on the planet.

Mangi came clean to the police about using the office the diamonds were found in. Scandal!, weekdays at 7:30PM

Mangi couldn’t handle that Bra Eddie seemed to be taking the fall for covering for him and decided to come clean to Lerumo, despite Dintle warning him not to. He was worried about being sent back to jail when Lerumo told him he’d have to involve his parole officer.

Mangi was forced to spend the night in jail and Dintle was angry that he’d jeopardised their future yet again. Meanwhile, Lucas heard about Mangi’s problems and Hector organised to have the diamonds stolen in order to save Eddie. Will Mangi escape jail?

Kabza’s girlfriend confronted Lindiwe at school and warned her to stay away from him. Scandal!, weekdays at 7:30PM.

Lindiwe learnt the hard way when Kabza’s girlfriend Thobile confronted her at school about him. It turned out Omphile was telling the truth after all. An emotional Lindiwe confided in Gontse and admitted that sleeping with Kabza was a big mistake.

Meanwhile, Lindiwe also had to admit that Omphile and her friend Mary were right all along for warning her against Kabza.

Later, Kabza arrived at Lindiwe’s house and, when Lindiwe confronted him, he claimed he thought Lindiwe knew about Thobile all along. Ouch! Has Lindiwe learnt her lesson?

Despite an epic fail, Hector is determined to pursue the journey he has embarked upon. Lindiwe is taken aback when she is rebuffed, but pleasantly surprised when she is not attacked. Ingrid has fears about Cameron because she’s completely unaware of his huge future plans.

Hector rethinks his plan of action, but keeps his enemy firmly in his sights. A common foe and some praise move the Ngema family towards reconciliation. Gontse is shocked when what she believed to be a joke turns out to be serious. Scelo passes an important test which many people fail.

Friday
A relationship which seemed to have ended for good comes back to haunt Lerumo and Anzani. Mangi and Dintle's lives become less comfortable, much to the pleasure of someone who is out of town. Ndumiso is very surprised by a rejection.

Gadifele lays claim to her section of the location and her shebeen business takes off. Reneilwe tries to convince herself and Sifiso that she doesn’t want a career in music.

Hector discovered that one of his diamonds was stolen and it was revealed that Dintle took it for herself. Scandal!, weekdays at 7:30PM.

On Friday, Lerumo told Mangi that the case against him was dropped after the diamonds were stolen from the police stations’ evidence room. The theft was the work of Hector, who asked Vermeulen to steal the diamonds back in order to clear Bra Edddie’s name.

When Hector got his diamonds back he discovered that one was missing and it was later revealed that Dintle had in fact taken a diamond and kept it for herself.

Dintle’s jackpot was short lived when Quinton fired Mangi from his job as manager at Q’s Lounge and also kicked them out of the penthouse.
