Nambitha Mpumlwana on why she loves Mandlakazi

Nambitha Mpumlwana

Nambitha Mpumlwana expands on her reasons for loving her character Mandlakazi in the second season of Ashes To Ashes.

Ashes To Ashes season 2 starts Monday, 14 March at 8PM.

RSVP for the season 2 premiere here.

What can viewers expect in Ashes To Ashes season 2?
This time around there’s a lot of drama, a lot of heartache, but I think what you’re going to find is a lot of growth and new characters. Some characters that were smaller in the first season will become bigger and more established, interesting and more alive. The Namane household goes through a lot of changes. Mandlakazi is challenged to be a different kind of parent.

How has your character evolved on the show?
With Mandlakazi the family fell apart towards the end of the first season. She thought she had everything under control, but when the big secret came out everything fell apart. The children didn’t want to be with each other and it was a mess. Now Mandlakazi wants to bring the family back together and with everything that happened in the first season the only way that’s going to happen is if everyone is transformed.

What do you enjoy the most about Ashes To Ashes?
In the previous season I was blessed because I was working with colleagues that get up to exhale and looked down on mediocrity. That has all come back in season 2. It’s amazing to get up in the morning and go to work with people that are committed and interested in what they’re doing. They are generous enough to give you the space you need to do what you do and trust you to give them the same. It’s a blessing.

What do you love the most about Mandlakazi?
I love Mandlakazi. She’s a hot mess, a disaster zone and one of the craziest people you’ll ever meet. I also think she’s one of the best mothers I’ve ever had the privilege of playing. She loves her children through their mistakes.
