Cameron’s jailbird father is back in town, will this make things difficult for Cameron and Bronnie?
Last week Cameron got the shock of his life when he opened the front door to find his estranged father Ivan. He thought he was opening the door to the Khumalos who were returning from Gloria’s wedding.
“Hello Cameron,” The man he hasn’t seen in 15 years said. “Pa?” A disbelieving Cameron replied.
Cameron became defensive demanding to know how his father had tracked him down. A very humble Ivan responded by saying that he first saw him at Vera’s funeral. He was due for a release from prison but when they learnt that his sister had died they let him go early so that he could attend the funeral. Ivan saw Cameron at the funeral but he kept his distance; he didn’t know how to approach him.
He then followed Cameron to NFH, but didn’t want to talk to him then and waited instead for him to go home. When Cameron heard how his father had tracked him down, he wasn’t pleased.
Who is Ivan?
Ivan is Cameron and Candice’s father and Auntie Vera’s brother. He lived most of his life as a gangster. 15 Years ago he was incarcerated leaving a 15-year-old Cameron and his sister to fend for themselves.
Ivan claims that he’s now a changed man and has let go of his wayward ways. He realized in prison how much he hurt his family with the lifestyle he had chosen.
Now that he’s not in prison anymore, he wants to reconnect with his son and make amends. He also has a lot of unanswered questions, like what happened to his daughter Candice? He learnt that she died in a freak accident, but is this true and was Marcel involved in it somehow? And why is Cameron looking after Bronwyn, shouldn’t she be with her father?
Cameron’s relationship with his father
Cameron resents his father for abandoning him; he’s lived a long time without a father figure. This man has caused him great pain and has let him down so he doesn’t want to open up to him again because he’ll likely just let him down again.
Does Ivan really want to reconcile with his son or does he have ulterior motives?
