Has Palesa Put Bronnie’s Life in Danger?

$

Palesa has stuck her nose in Cameron’s business and now she may have put Bronnie’s life in danger. We chat to Refilwe Madumo about her character.

Palesa has been trying to get to the bottom of the problem in the Jansen household for a while now. As a counselor, she’s very concerned about the well-being of Bronnie. Palesa became a counselor a few years ago when she realized she had reached a dead-end in her career. After giving birth to her first born Lefa, she didn’t want to be a receptionist anymore. She wanted to do something that added value to her life; she wanted to change the world. She found a course on counseling and has been counseling on the side ever since.

But is her meddling in the Jansen issue adding value or more harm? After weeks of probing and trying to get information from Bronnie about her real dad, Palesa met with Ivan behind Cameron’s back. That’s how she found out that Cameron isn’t Bronnie’s real father. She then teamed up with Mmadika to search for Bronnie’s real father. When she found out Marcel was the real father and she called him to say she knows where his daughter is.

Has Palesa gone too far?

We chat to Refilwe Madumo about Palesa’s nosiness.

Why the sudden interest in Bronnie’s well-being?

I think Cameron and Bronnie have always intrigued her. How they survive on so little and being secluded. They don’t have any other family according to Cameron. Not in Newtown, not in Joburg, not anywhere. They are alone in the world and that’s sad. In her interactions with Bronnie in the time that they’ve been living with them, she realized her stories don’t add up. They don’t add up with what Cameron has said. It just sent alarm bells with Palesa.

Why is it important for Palesa to get to the bottom of the story with Cameron?

She’s a student of psychology and now she thinks she can diagnose everything. With her little knowledge, she knew something was wrong and she diagnosed Cameron. She thought Cameron must have a split personality. If you’re convinced of something then everything is a sign. When Cameron gets angry it confirms her suspicions. She went on a crusade to prove that Cameron has a split personality and that he’s dangerous to Bronnie. Her main concern is saving this girl’s life.

Does this have to do with her own violent father?

Subconsciously we all have baggage. We don’t know how we react to things. She’s not consciously thinking of her father, it’s a subconscious thing – she’s wary of any man. It’s just something that’s ingrained in her. Her mother got impregnated by a pimp. She’s wary of men that are nice and especially Cameron who wants to take care of a child. She always wants to dig deep to see if it’s a sincere relationship.

Why does she think Cameron’s behaviour is suspicious?

She finds it suspicious because Bronnie says she’s got two dads. How can one have two fathers - one who is nice and one who is a dragon? That needs to be scrutinized. The more she speaks to Cameron the more his story falls apart. He said he doesn’t have a father but now he has one.

What information did she hope to get from her meeting with Ivan?

All she wanted to hear was that she’s right and that Cameron is sick and that he has a mental illness. But when she met the dad she realized that there’s more to the story. She’s even more in the dark after meeting Ivan.

What has she done with the information she got?

She took it Mmadika to investigate. She found out Cameron has a sister and somehow she’s connected to the story. Not only has Cameron lied about not having a dad but now there’s a sister also, so she gets Mmadika to investigate to find out more.

Will she ever let this go?

No, that’s just her nature. She will dig until she finds something.

The 10 Best Grammy Moments in History

$

With the 2014 Grammy Award Ceremony around the corner, we count down the 10 most epic moments in Grammy history!

1. Peekaboo! Way before Miley’s fishnets, pasties, and bikini bottoms, there was Jennifer Lopez’s controversial plunging sheer Versace gown she wore to accompany P Diddy to the 2000 Grammy Awards.

2. The following year in 2001, Toni Braxton left little to the imagination in this white satin dress cloth held together by a few strips of sparkly fabric and double-sided tape. One wrong move and hello, birthday suit!

3. In 2008 Tina Turner and Beyoncé got the crowd shimmying and shaking with an exuberant performance of “Proud Mary,” for which Tina Turner won a Grammy in 1972. Can you believe she is 74 years old?

4. The 1993 Grammy Awards should be renamed, “The Eric Clapton Awards.” The guitar legend performed a beautiful unplugged rendition of “Tears in Heaven” and walked away with six statuettes!

5. Never one to disappoint when it comes to the outrageous, Lady Gaga arrived at the 2011 Grammy Awards in a giant egg and then hatched onstage during her performance of “Born this Way.” I dunno, it’s a little literal, no?

6. The King of Pop kicked off his 1988 Grammy performance with a slowed down version of “The Way You Make Me Feel” before delivering an inspiring rendition of, “Man in the Mirror.”

7. Yo Kanye, I’m really happy for you, Ima let you finish but you weren’t the first rapper to interrupt an artist’s acceptance speech. In 2004 50 Cent interjected Evanescence’s Grammy speech when they beat him in the “Best New Artist” category.

8. Despite numerous counts of douchebag behavior and speeches, Kanye West made a pretty dope speech when he won Best Album at the 2005 Grammy Awards.

9. Fans were stunned when Breezy assaulted Riri on the eve of the 2009 Grammy’s and Rihanna, who was scheduled to make an appearance at the awards, had to cancel.  Things escalated quickly when an officer from the LAPD leaked graphic photos of Rihanna’s beaten and bloody face.

10. On the eve of the 2012 Grammy Awards ceremony, music legend Whitney Houston was found dead in her hotel room. At the award ceremony Jennifer Hudson sang the Whitney Houston classic “I Will Always Love You” for what’s been considered one of the most emotional Grammy ceremonies to date.

The 2014 Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, 26 January at 8PM ET at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Performers include John Legend, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Jay-Z.

Cameron’s Hideout

Marcel’s return has forced Cameron and Bronnie to go into hiding. But will they be safe?

The big bad wolf Marcel is back in town and he wants to see his daughter. Thanks to Palesa’s nosiness Bronnie’s life is now in danger. When she found out that Marcel was Bronnie’s real dad and not Cameron, Palesa called Marcel to tell him she knows where his daughter is.

Happy to hear the news, Marcel told her that his brother-in-law ran off with his daughter after her mother died. Shocked to hear this Palesa suggested they call the police immediately. But Marcel didn’t want to get the police involved, he told her it would be better to deal with this issue peacefully as a family. Palesa then proceeded to give him her address.

Marcel deception

After Palesa contacted Marcel, he quickly made his way to Joburg to fetch Bronnie. But when he arrived he found Eddie who wanted to quiz him before handing over information about where he can find his daughter. Marcel spun a story about Cameron always being a fragile person; he was so hurt when his sister Candice (Bronnie’s mom) died in an accident that he snapped and took the child.

He thinks that Cameron was grieving and kidnapped Bronnie because she was the only connection he had to his sister. But he told the Khumalos that Cameron is not evil, just sick and that’s why he did not involve the police when his daughter went missing. He was scared that Cameron would do something unpredictable if the police were involved.

Although Eddie was a little moved by this story he wanted to hear Cameron’s side of the story before making any decisions. So he called Kila to make sure that Cameron comes home immediately.

Cameron alerted

But Kila, who knows Cameron’s story, warned Cameron that Marcel was in town to reclaim his daughter. Cameron demanded to know how Marcel found out where to find him. Kila then told him that Palesa contacted Marcel and gave him the address to the Khumalos. Kila suggested that Cameron should lie low and he will go and tell the Khumalos the truth about Marcel.

In the meantime, Cameron and Bronnie is hiding out in an empty NFH office on the fourth floor.  There are no cameras so nobody will find out they are hiding there. Bronnie is devastated. What will they eat? How will she get to school? Cameron tells her they might have to leave town again and look for a new home. Bronnie is distraught at this prospect.

The truth about Marcel

Back at the Khumalo household, Kila has arrived. He tells them Cameron fetched Bronnie from school and has left work. He admits to Eddie that Cameron ran because he tipped him off about Marcel’s return. He warned him because the Khumalos need to know exactly who Marcel is. Cameron confided in him, he has known that Cameron was not Bronnie’s father for quite some time now. Cameron told him that Marcel abused his wife and hounded her to her death.  Marcel is abusive and a danger to Bronnie

Marcel is not pleased with the developments and wants to go find Bronnie on his own. But Eddie tells him if he does that he will call the police. Marcel is now on lockdown at the Khumalos.

Will he find a way out? What will happen next?

Scandalous Jailbird Fathers

$
0
0

Cameron, Mangi, Palesa and Quinton all have jailbird fathers. We take a look at what got them in trouble with the law and who’s the baddest of them all.

Pule aka Bishop

Bishop isPalesa’s father and was Maletsatsi’s pimp during her prostitute days. She fell pregnant with his baby. After enduring abuse from Bishop for years, Maletsatsi ran away leaving the life of prostitution behind. She lied to her daughter about who her real dad was; she wanted to protect her from the monster that Bishop was. She told Palesa she was conceived as a result of a one night stand and she didn’t know who her father was.

He was in prison for armed robbery. While in prison he wrote a heartwarming letter to Palesa telling her that he is her father and he would like to reconnect. The letter read as follows: “Dear Palesa, you don’t know me, but that is why I’m writing. You should know me. I am your father. I am paying my debt to society for a terrible life I want to put behind me. I have found the Lord, and so I knew it was time to find my daughter. I know this might be a shock but I hope you will at least hear me out.” After reading this letter, Palesa who had been looking for her father all her life began visiting Bishop in prison.  Bishop played the reformed gangster very well and soon he had Palesa hoodwinked. She believed he was a changed man.

His relationship with his daughter was destroyed when she found out what a monster he really was. Soon after Palesa’s prison visits Bishop escaped from prison and started demanding money from Palesa. He escaped when he was being transferred to a maximum security prison. Palesa hid him in her apartment. He asked Palesa to give him money just to get him started and when he realized Palesa only had R500 to offer he pulled a gun on her and demanded more. Lefa, Palesa’s late husband wrestled him for the gun and he was shot. The gunshot left Bishop paralyzed. He is still in prison. Palesa has shut him out of her life.

Ivan

Ivan isCameron and Candice’s father. He is Auntie Vera’s brother and Bronnie’s grandfather. He missed his daughter’s funeral and had up until recently not seen his son Cameron in 15 years. He lived most of his life as a gangster. As a young man he got caught up in dangerous gang activities and ended up being incarcerated for 15 years. He was recently released from prison and he says he’s changed.

He was in prison for culpable homicide. While in prison he met a social worker who helped steer him to a place of wanting to reform. Realizing how destructive his behaviour was when he was younger, he decided it was time to change his wayward ways. The 40-year-old reformed ex-convict started a programme to teach young men to be better fathers, husbands, and community members. When he got out of prison his mission was to make amends with his son and he wants to solve the situation between Cameron, Bronnie, and Marcel.

His relationship with his son is on shaky ground. While Ivan wants to make amends and has apologized for abandoning his family years ago, Cameron is not ready to reconcile with him. He’s still very angry with him; he resents him for abandoning him when he was just 15.  Not having a father figure has caused him great pain and Cameron is not sure he can trust him, let alone letting him back into his life.

Daniel aka Lucas

Daniel is a cunning and ruthless man. He framed the real Daniel Nyathi for drug smuggling and stole his identity. He is Mangi and Michaela’s father. He’s married to the devious Shakira. They’re the most powerful couple in Newtown. Together they’ve managed to keep the truth of who Daniel really is a secret.

He was in prison for Leticia’s murder and was found guilty of obstructing justice. He was sentenced to 5 years in jail, but he found a way to get out. Daniel paid Dr. Otto to diagnose him with Lindau’s disease, a tumor on his spine, which granted him medical parole. He was released from prison and granted a presidential pardon. He was wheelchair bound for some time because of the “disease” but was later busted walking by Mangi

His relationship with his son has always been on and off. Mangi has a love-hate relationship with his father. He doesn’t like his father’s dishonesty and deceptive nature. However, he also loves him dearly and he hopes he will change and do things by the book. He wishes his dad was less manipulative. Mangi has moved out of home countless times because of something his father did or said. But he always finds his way back home. When Daniel’s life was in danger and Cain wanted to kill him, Mangi wrestled him for the gun and shot Cain.

Cain aka the real Daniel

Cain wasDaniel’s cousin and Quinton’s father. He is the real Daniel Nyathi. He was stripped of his identity and lived under terrible conditions in a South American prison for ten years. Prior to his imprisonment he was forced to leave South Africa and live in exile when his white girlfriend’s parents found out that they were dating. It was during the apartheid era and interracial relationships were prohibited.

He was in prison for drug smuggling. His cousin Daniel aka Lucas framed him and assumed his identity. He then left the country and made a living using his cousin’s identity. Cain was left to rot in a South American prison for a decade. He escaped from prison and came back to South Africa with one mission only: to reclaim his identity and make the person responsible pay. When he arrived he kidnapped Daniel and kept him in a dungeon with little food and water. He later tried to kill Daniel, but ended up being shot by Mangi. He has since died.

His relationship with his son was non-existent because he didn’t know he had a son until he came back to South Africa. But he soon found out that his former girlfriend Layla had a son called Quinton. He was his baby. Quinton had lived most of his life without his parents. Quinton and Cain were reunited, but it was too late for them because Cain was on a revenge path. Quinton tried to talk him out of harming Daniel so that they could have a chance to reconnect as father and son. But Cain continued with his revenge plans and died in the process.

Bishop, Daniel, Ivan or Cain, who has the most street cred? Who is the baddest of them all?

This week on Generation Free we meet 21-year-old Rayne Moses who is building a business around his love for skateboarding.

Generation Free showcases inspiring, emotive stories from South Africans of all ages, cultures, regions and classes who are creating a better country.

This week we meet 21-year-old Rayne Moses who is building a business around his love for skateboarding and his passion for helping young South Africans to dream big.

Rayne, who is also a rapper, launched his youth development project in Gugulethu in March last year. Together with his two business partners, Kurt Daley and Ntlantla “Ice” Dukwe, they organise skateboarding events and manage their own Nebula clothing brand.

His intention for starting Nebula was not only to realise his long-held dream, but also to make a difference in the lives of young people.

During the week he and his team conducts tutoring and skateboarding sessions with children from Gugulethu and believes that time spent on developing skating skills must be balanced with time dedicated to education.

“How far you go with skateboarding and how good you become is really up to how much effort you put into it – and that applies to anything.”

Rayne says as an individual you have to find a specific way you want to make a difference in the world and not rely on someone else to solve it.

He’s not sure if he’s going to vote in this year’s national elections and thinks parties should solve issues together.

Thembeka vs Layla: The Battle for Quinton

$
0
0

Thembeka and Layla are ready to throttle each other, but whose side will Quinton choose?

Since Thembeka’s return from Cape Town she’s rekindled her love affair with Quinton. Many may find it strange given that she was upset with Q when he signed in favour of Secrets. In the time she’s been back she’s thrown Quinton into a state of confusion. She pretended she was seeing other men and not just Quinton. Learning this enraged him and pushed him to make a commitment to her. But there’s one person in her way - how will Thembeka deal with Layla’s meddling?

Layla doesn’t like the idea of Thembeka and her son are seeing each other again. She says she’s worried this relationship will jeopardize Quinton’s job at NFH. But is that all? Layla has never liked Thembeka. Who could blame her especially after Thembeka published a scathing article about Cain and made him look like a lunatic? Layla preferred Ruby. She was more grounded and not hotheaded like Thembeka. And now that Thembeka is planning to stick around and even marry her son, she won’t hear any of it. Will she sabotage Thembeka’s relationship?

Thembeka vs Layla, who will win the battle?

Thembeka

Layla

- Remember she took Quinton from Ruby? Quinton had a girlfriend when the two started snogging and he ended up leaving his girlfriend for Thembeka. Call her a home wrecker or whatever, but she obviously has him wrapped around her finger. We think he’s falling for her. This week he told her he doesn’t want to be friends with benefits and that he would like to commit to their relationship.

Her relationship with her son Quinton is still new – they only found each other last year. Before that Quinton had lived his life as an orphan. Although in the beginning Quinton was angry that his mother abandoned him, when he realized that Layla’s parents had forced her to give him up, he forgave her. Quinton and Layla are growing closer and catching up on lost time. Quinton is always seeking her approval.

- She’s not afraid to get her hands dirty and face her enemy. When she found out her father was planning to marry her nemesis, Precious, she bad mouthed her to Ronald. When that didn’t work she attacked Precious and almost strangled her. But her plan didn’t have the desired outcome because she ended up in jail.

She faces her problems head on. After her former lover Cain was shot by a Nyathi, she went to the hospital to confront Daniel. She told him to stay away from her son Quinton. She blamed him for destroying Cain’s life. But that didn’t end well for her, the next day she was kidnapped and held hostage by Shakira.

- Apart from Quinton’s affection, she’s got nothing to lose if she goes to war with Layla.

Her relationship with her son is too important and she doesn’t want to do anything to jeopardize it. Any attack she launches on Thembeka could backfire.

Thembeka vs Layla, who will win over Quinton?

You’ll be surprised to know which artists helped out on Bey’s new album.

We bet you didn’t know these artists were heavily involved in Beyonce’s new album that near broke the internet when she dropped the entire 14 track album (including 17 videos) on iTunes late last year. Not even a tweet to warn us.

So now that we’ve regained consciousness after that head-spin, we give you the rundown of artists who worked on the album with her. Yes, even Queen B needs help.

Here’s how everyone contributed to the album:

1. The Dream came up with the name “Yonce” and produced most of the album.

2. Justin Timberlake: The beat you hear on the “Yonce” track is actually Justin beating on a bucket.

3. Justin Timberlake also wrote “Partition,” which is a little creepy because it’s so sultry and clearly about Jay-Z

4. Miguel wrote “Rocket,” the track with the most sexual innuendos. Can’t say we’re surprised, how many drinks, Mig?

5. Pharrell Williams supplied the awesome beat and lyrics of “Blow” and helped write “Superpower” which features Frank Ocean. No wonder it’s the two funkiest tracks on the album.

6. Sia Furler, the talented Australian down-tempo artist wrote “Pretty Hurts.” Sia also writes for Rihanna and Katy Perry
