Thembeka

Thembeka is back with a belly and she’s already raising suspicion with her dodgy behaviour. Scandal!, weekdays at 7:30PM

Thembeka is obviously faking her pregnancy. Yesterday, she arrived back at NFH confidently sporting a new belly after spending some time away on leave. However, she has already started to raise some suspicions due to the size of her stomach and her evasive behaviour.

1.She wouldn’t let Zuleika touch her belly

Zuleika and Thembeka

Thembeka walked past Zuleika on her way to Quinton’s office. Zuleika praised Thembeka for how beautiful she looked. She also asked if she could touch her belly, but as she reached out Thembeka stopped her and said nothing annoyes her more than people touching her belly.

2. A colleague questioned the size of Thembeka’s belly

James and Zuleika

Thembeka attracted a lot of attention with her grand entrance, so much so that a colleague noticed her big stomach and raised it to Zuleika. He wondered if Thembeka’s stomach isn’t too large for her current stage of pregnancy. Zuleika warned him not to let Thembeka hear that he thinks she’s fat.

3. She refused to hug Quinton

Quinton and Thembeka

Quinton and Thembeka haven’t seen each other for a long time. So it was only natural for Quinton to get up to greet her but just as Quinton was about to hug Thembeka, she quickly refused and lied about how bumpy the flight was and how nauseous it made her feel. Quinton got her a glass of water.

It seems like Thembeka’s problems have only just begun as Quinton also informed her the real reason he asked her to return is because the police say Audrey is back in the country and is accusing Thembeka of Vuyo’s murder.

Layla

Layla tells Thembeka that the police want to interview her. Scandal!, weekdays at 7:30PM

Last night Thembeka’s lawyer, Arrod, told her that the two main reasons that could lead to her prosecution are the fact that she had motive to kill Vuyo and the missing earring found on the lining of Vuyo’s jacket.

Layla happens to be the person who recognised one of the earrings she lent Thembeka from the pictures Bra Eddie showed her of Vuyo’s body. Layla gave the earrings to Thembeka on her wedding day as her “something borrowed”.

Tonight, Layla happily informs Quinton and Thembeka that the police want to interview her. Thembeka looks back at her in horror, knowing very well that Layla isn’t likely to say anything in her favour, given their strained relationship.

Photo of Hector with Naledi

Dintle was shocked to find a photo of Hector with Naledi inside a book in his house. Scandal!, weekdays at 7:30PM

Hector and Naledi are father and daughter, but have chosen to keep that particular fact under wraps because of their intentions with the Nyathi’s.

When Mangi introduced Naledi to Bra Hector, the pair pretended they don’t know each other. Then Mangi walked in on Hector with Naledi in his home and they lied saying Naledi was there to convince Hector to do an interview with Bra Eddie.

Since then, Hector accidentally referred to Mangi as his late son Thateho and admitted to Lucas that he plans to steal Mangi from him.

Last night, Mangi confronted Hector about the Thateho incident, but Hector lied saying he chose to mentor Mangi because he wants him to succeed.

Later, Mangi admitted to Dintle that Bra Hector was still grieving and wondered if they should leave before things get any weirder. Dintle declined. Minutes later, Dintle tried to connect to the Wi-Fi, but the password had been changed. Mangi advised her to read a fashion book instead and when Dintle paged through it, she found a picture of Hector with Naledi.

Connie Chiume talks Rhythm City exit

$

We sat down with Connie Chiume for an emotional interview moments after wrapping up her final episode on Rhythm City

Still dressed in her hospital gown and seated in the ICU ward where Kete took her final breath, we spoke to Connie about her nine years as Mamokete Khuse on Rhythm City.

Connie expressed that from the very first day she had a strong connection to the character.  “I could relate to Mamokete, especially as a mother.” And she formed a particularly deep bond with her co-stars: “We have a wonderful team. From the people who are no longer here, to those who are still with us and those who joined us later.”

Even after shooting her final scene on the show, Connie still exudes poise and humility and says: “In the old school we were taught to respect our jobs and to respect the people we work with.” And she hopes that the professional way in which she conducted herself will stick with the younger actors.

She explained that the learning experience on the show was a two-way street. “The younger generations who graduated from drama schools come with new ideas. They are learning from us, and we are learning from them.”

When asked about her best moments on the show, the actress got extremely emotional and struggled to hold back the tears. “There were moments of joy and moments of sadness on this journey. This is a very hard and emotional moment. To part with the family that has been with me for the last nine years… I’m not going to lie and say I feel joy.”

“I am weak when it comes to parting with people. I can’t take it,” she explained, trying to keep her feelings under control. But it’s not all sorrow for Connie, “there are many opportunities out there and many things that I am intending to do.”

The storyline that she enjoyed portraying the most was when Mamokete was torn between Jacob and Kop. But ultimately her character decided to stay with her husband. “The purpose of the story line was to show the viewers that there’s still a family with morals, who support each other. I hope that’s the message we have imparted to our viewers.”

“The stories were intriguing and challenging. I woke up in the morning looking forward to doing my scenes.”

Connie said that she will miss everyone on set, especially her TV family Reneilwe (Amo Chidi), Kop (Setlhabi Taunyane) and Fats (Mpho Molepo).

She expressed great appreciation to the fans who supported her during her years on Rhythm City. "To all the supporters of Rhythm City I would like to encourage you to keep watching. Mamokete has exited but it’s not the end of the show.” She goes on to say: “Thank you so very much for watching for the last nine years and we love you!”

Meet The Alliance cast

A new action drama, The Alliance, premieres on Wednesday, 27 April at 9:30PM.

The Alliance depicts the life of a popular kingpin, Bra Jay, also known as the Reserve Bank Governor of Soweto. Bra Jay has a thirst for power and rules those around him with an iron fist.

JASON “BRA JAY” NKABINDE (Sifiso Simamane)

Streetwise, stubborn and always the suspect, Bra Jay has unlimited access to the law and the rewards of his intelligent money laundering channels. He's the Reserve Bank Governor of Soweto (he literally signs the money).

NANDI NKABINDE (Gugulethu Zulu)

Nandi is a beautiful young lady whose upbringing afforded her access to resources that most of her peers in Soweto could only dream of. From early on in her life, Nandi knew she had to uphold the highest moral standards through merely having a popular and respected (feared) man such as Bra Jay as her father.

EVELYN BALOYI (Keneilwe Matidze)

She's Bra Jay’s second wife and stepmother to Nandi. Born and bred in Soweto, she's a kasi woman of note. A child of shebeen owners who were tragically gunned down in the early 1990’s and a witness to the murder of her family, she's driven to revenge.

FRANK, (Denzel Edgar)

“Tsetse” as he is widely known, is street smart. He seeks autonomy in his businesses outside of Bra Jay. Currently, Bra Jay serves as a great ally for him to clean his millions but has hidden resentment towards him because he doesn’t treat Tsetse as the equal that he imagines himself to be.

SIS DEE (Cebile Mlaba)

Dimpho Mokoena is a hard-up gangster who took on the reins of her husband Ofentse’s illegitimate drug and arms business. She acted as his “proxy” when he was jailed for a botched up armed bank robbery in the early 90’s. Having experienced the underground world for a long time, Dimpho’s demeanour has changed and she has grown to become a woman well-versed in brutal intimidation.

VLADIMIR GORELEV (Damon Berry)

Aka “The Russian”. He's the son of a former Soviet Navy Lieutenant. Rebellious as a teenager, with a penchant for gambling.

The Alliance starts on Wednesday, 27 April at 9:30PM.

Despite their best efforts there was nothing more the medical staff could do, and Mamokete is declared dead. Without seeing her children one last time.
